Portland Orgeon USA Easter time

This was a trip we took to Portland Oregon driving down from Vancouver. three weeks ago on Easter week end. The weather was fine, we were surprised by the nice architecture mix in town. The Chinese garden entrance fee is a NOT fair for the size compared to the similar fee for the large and beautiful Japanese gardens. The Econo lodge (yes NOT very luxurious sounding) was VERY much OK for a room including breakfast a heated swimming pool and Jacuzzi in pristine clean condition a bedroom with two queen size beds 100% cotton sheets changed every day and ensuite breakfast room with microwave fridge and small kitchen and 2nd TV and an full size ensuite bathroom what more can one want for 54$ per night. It is on Milwaukee exact 8miles from down town on a straight lane I can recommend it http://www.tripadvisor.ca/Hotel_Review-g51972-d101948-Reviews-Econo_Lodge_Southeast-Milwaukie_Clackamas_County_Oregon.html. Service was friendly and "trustworthy & friendly " Mexican ladies cleaning staff.
We liked the drive we took in last minute in the evening along the gigantic Columbia river. Seaworthy vessels go upstream up to +- 500miles to pick up grains for export a truck driver at the view point explained to me. The view point on top of the mountain, very windy, was stunning in the sunset over looking the nature park along the river that is a very gay friendly area where nude beaches emerge in summer when the river level drops. The old highway on top of the mountain seems very pictoresque and seem to be a real lifestyle apart with ranches and farms etc.. Something to explore on another trip. We visited Frey on Easter Sunday morning and it was closed with NO notice no where and dozen of British Columbia cheesed off cars loaded with I guess shopping ready customers who must have taken their $ home again. Lucky we could return on Monday morning although the prices were nothing to go nuts shopping. We had a great burger at Burger Mary same as the original one in Honolulu Hawaii that is missed since the permanent closing.
