Cape town bed and breakfast and the quaint Simonstown
From our gorgeous bed and breakfast we like to drive along the coast to Simonstown. Do not miss before Simonstown the very lovely miniature Versaille Italian Palazzo with a stunning view to the beach. It was the residence of the Italian Ambassadors many years ago. Entrance fee is minimal. Simonstown a few more kilometer along the road is just a stone throw away from Bolders Beach where you can mingle with the African Pinguins. They came 2 couples out of nowhere over 75 years ago and are now over 3000. They are as bold as the huge granite boulders themselves they will walk up to you if you are not moving maybe half a meter and look at stare at you. If you need or want to swim every day and quite and tranquil living that is the ONLY place in and around Cape Town that offer sea water close to a relaxing mode temperature it can be crowed in summer. Do not miss (if still alive) the old English Lady who is the ONLY one who still has a license there to a beach hut she spends her summer days at, nothing much or privacy there. The sand and recluse beaches offer water that I would say are close to 18- 20C ( like the North Sea in Europe in summer). Move your finger and the fearless Pinguin will walk away. Do not try to touch them they are NOT to be petted. Simonstown is full or Art Galleries pottery and Arts and Craft see my section for that.My two favorite Bed and Breafast in Cape Town are "Black Heath Lodge" http://www.blackheathlodge.co.za/ ( The yellow duck in the pool) in Green Point, NO view but the pool and lovely service and some of the rooms have high ceilings (not negligible in hot summer days) make up for that and the very friendly and attentive service. Or ask for the small suite with private entrance and small kitchen with pool view. Or if seeing tiny bit of sea than ask for mansard suites under the roof. If you like less quaint and more minimalist there is the Fontainblue in Fontenay http://www.maisonfontainbleau.co.za/ with nice sea and lions head views, all designer furniture and lovely sun basking pool. The rooms are on the ground level. NO view but ultra modern comfy stunning linen (as many B&B in RSA) and the hostess has the "mostest" of charm and attention. Easy parking. I recommend a car as it is on top of a hill and your brakes better be in good shape. By foot it sure would make you sweat with a bike or per foot without compassion.
