1. Nature in its many splendors

My favorite pets and animal moments in no particular order

Hey it all started with wanting a section with all "our" favorite pets. But then there are the best friends pets and then there are the aaaaaaaaadorable pets you meet on the street and then there are these 'a little sad" and so willing Zoo pets..Lets say every human's pet although I am not a Zoo lover but found that the Johannesburg Zoo is probably the most human & animal friendly. All my pets always were/are and will be adopted, rescued never purchased. The first sets of pics will have the name of the Pet so you'll know who I have and had a special relationship with. Most lived with us bus some are dear partners of friends. So I ended up putting them all in one gallery. Obviously if you like cats and dogs they make up the majority in this gallery. If you notice that one special one is being repeatedly shown than he/she is was one of ours. "Bella" the Poodle seems to be a favorite in several countries with many people. Never met more " Bellas' than any other type they seem to come into my life. Here are a few links just so pinpoint our own pets. Then there is "Gyzmo" the sweetest and cutey Pekingese Poodle you ever have met now age +-10. "Bella" now +-19 the Maltese cross Fox Poodle with her best friend the jet black "Ebony" now+- 12 the Dachshund cross 5% black Lab one of my lifetime favorite. Oh well there are so many favorites like "Justice" the Ridgeback who sadly passed on within hours of an undetected Cancer of the Spleen at age six, joining his friend the tabby "Wiscat" who I offered his last year of peace battling his health ordeal surrounded by love. "Tilly" the red lipped aquatic water turtle rescued from 27 years in an Oil drum surrounded by a wall limiting her life to 1m2. The funny thing we we go her we put her in the Koi pond, must have felt like an ocean to her. But then one day I saw her literally snipping baby Kois in two. So that was not a good choice as the cost of each Koi. So we build and moved her to her personal Spa with waterfall, under water cave for peace and quite hibernation and her personal island sunbathing platform. Excerpts from the Dog's Diary...

Day 7000 of my captivity.. My captors continue to taunt me with bizarre little dangling objects. They dine lavishly on fresh meat, while the other inmates and I are fed hash or some sort of dry nuggets. Although I make my contempt for the rations perfectly clear, I nevertheless must eat something in order to keep up my strength. The only thing that keeps me going is my dream of escape. In an attempt to disgust them, I once again vomit on the carpet. Today I decapitated a mouse and dropped its headless body at their feet. I had hoped this would strike fear into their hearts, since it clearly demonstrates what I am capable of. However, they merely made condescending comments about what a 'good little hunter' I am. Mmmm what shall I call them?..Mmmm I can't write that here. There was some sort of assembly of their accomplices tonight. I was placed in solitary confinement for the duration of the event. However, I could hear the noises and smell the food. I overheard that my confinement was due to the power of 'allergies.' I must learn what this means and how to use it to my advantage. Today I was almost successful in an attempt to assassinate one of my tormentors by weaving around his feet as he was walking. I must try this again tomorrow -- but at the top of the stairs. I am convinced that the other prisoners here are flunkies and snitches. The dog receives special privileges. He is regularly released - and seems to be more than willing to return. He is obviously retarded. The bird has got to be an informant. I observe him communicating with the guards regularly. I am certain that he reports my every move. My captors have arranged protective custody for him in an elevated cell, so he is safe. For now...............
From page 23-28 I add some picture of the Johannesburg Zoo that I support every year with a donation. I believe the animals here are very well kept and space is NOT at a premium and it is way to learn about the animal kingdom. Especially in this new South Africa there are many who do not have the funds yet to travel and discover the animals in the wild. It seems they are only viewable to those with deep pockets in luxurious Safari camps. But we have to admit this keeps the rest of wilderness animals healthy and alive and cared for.

• EBONY the jet black dachshund 5% Lab mix
• Pincess "Bella" my secod Bella in my life. Adopted from a beaten life of 7 years in a one room flat . When I got her she did not know what grass and outdoor was. She did not stop running for about a two days nearly non stop in our garden. She is still alive at age 22 in South Africa and keeps company to our friend Pierre and takes him to 5 walks a day. A real wonderful small but Grand Lady.
• "Banji" our rescue "Turtleshell Lady" A perfection of IN and OUTdoor cat best friend with "Lucky" the white socked tabby and all the rest of the pack.
• "Sushi" who wonderful rescue story. At the grooming parlor with Bella comes in this lady in tears with the then called "Lucy" Please make her beautiful she tells the owner of the parler. I have to give her to SPCA as we are moving to a townhouse and there pets are not allowed. I looked at Lucy and told the lady . I live around the corner. If you you want bring her around after her grooming if she likes our dogs and cats and they like her( I knew they would) than no need to bring her to the SPCA .
She came, stayed and lived happy ever after. It took me weeks to change her name. I tried everything from Curtsy to Chewy till one day at the slip of my tongue I called her Sushi and she obviously responded to it . So Sushi she became.
• "Bella" my new friend in Canada . She is like a re incarnation of our South African Bella.
• "Curry" (Green curry get the drift) he got it with his sister "Jallo" . He became very very tame and flew with me around our 22.000sq feet garden. He walked the grounds with the dogs and cats. Sadly he flew away WITH "Jallo" one day when the house keeper carring the cage tripped and fell down the cage door opend and both flew away into a 30m Acacia tree. They spend hours up there I climbed up as high as possible, even one of the cat tried to get up there:-). But sadly they took off at the end of the day to a new unknown hopefully safe destination, maybe into someone else's garden. Actually Parakeet can survive in the wild in South Africa as can Parrots. I had several escaped Parrots landing on our trees. Sadly non of them came to make friends.

• "Gyzmo" our Chinese Golden Pekinese . I real darling adopted as a pair via good friends immigrating to NZ who lost a friend passed on who had five Pekineese. He was traumatised spending 5days with his dead master .His 1/2 blind brother "eWOK" brought the other eye to my sister in laws 1/2 blind Maletese poodle . At first she thought it was a bad joke. She found out that even Dogs can use a working dogs help and become best buddies.
• Our 1st "Adoptee" from "VOKRA" ( Vancouver Orphan Kitten Rescue Association) "Linux" is a Main Koon ( a special type of Tabby with hair in the ear and between the toes and a special type of mane and line down the spine and to the tail. Very majestic now that he is two. http://www.orphankittenrescue.com/
• "Boykee" the Playboy of the block. Rescued from a priest yard where he ended up. He loooooved water and climbing the 3m walls of our home run along the roof jump to the streets at night and go and see the girls. Sadly this cost him his life after 5 years of pleasurable nights out . He was NOT on drugs :-) But keeping him at home was impossible he would start singing uncontrollably untile let loose in the garden at night :-). He had unique ways to act . Must find more great pics of him . We had to retrain him otherwise he would have drowned on drinking the water house when we watered the garden. He was the only dog who would plunge head frist like humans in the pool and swimm 10 + laps with me no problem. An aaaaadorable partner in life ! He must have been "Pisces "like me :-) His love for water was uncontrollable from the pool to rain drops falling out of the sky he used to try to catch to uncontrollable urge to drink water running off the car when being washed :-).
• "eWOK" The one eyed rescue Pekingese who came with Gyzmo making a very luxurious living now with family of my brother Patric in Albertron.
• "Lucky" the real lucky one . Rescued by my partners daughter hurt and injured from a dog bite. He turned out to become a most amazing stylish kitten and cat. Lucky is a "poser" I can put him and pose him nearly in any situation. He lives now on with "Banji" at a friend home. A true cat lover who has more than a dozen cats who run his life.
• "Wii_scat" rescued sick and given a last year of life through his battle with a serious kidney indeficiency. He is in cat's heaven now but passed on it total peace and great care. Sometime we have to take on a life that we know will not be as long as we would wish. But at least we know that ease a pets life is the same as helping and share aa human friend's plight.
• Veni Vini Vici
He came and stayed and went 6month later. He was a loner we called him "Garfield" as he had his funny moments. He was a stately "lounger" moving fast was unknown to hm. Smiling what for ? I am a cat so he looked grumpy and ate himself silly. Controlling it was not easy. He would only eat out of his own bowl. But beware if it was empty he loved stealing it from his fellow cats. And one day he was gone...I guess he found a bigger bowl of food somewhere in the neighborhood.
